Gentle Treatment for Anxiety

In our first session, I can share two easy techniques that will help you feel better quickly. As we work together, I will help you learn relaxation and body/mind tools that provide a sense of control and inner balance. Then I can then help you explore and resolve underlying issues and patterns that may be driving your anxious responses to specific situations, to relationships, or to life in general.

Anxiety makes us uncomfortable. Everyone wants to avoid it, but sometimes we get stuck in a pattern that is hard to break without help.

We fidget, try to distract ourselves, sometimes turn to food or drink or the internet or almost anything that will help us run away from how we feel.

You may be facing a short-term stressor such as a job interview or speaking at an event.

Or you may have been struggling with anxiety for a long time.

In either case I can help you learn some holistic tools, including relaxation skills, mindfulness practices, or energy medicine techniques, to help you feel better quickly.

I can then help you explore and resolve underlying issues and patterns that may be driving your anxious responses to specific situations or to life in general.

Maybe you are like some of my clients who have been so anxious that it was very difficult for them to call and ask for help. Please know that I care. I have a very gentle approach. I will help you feel comfortable and listen to your concerns and needs.

Anxiety comes in several flavors:

Maybe you experience a sharp spike of anxiety when faced with a specific task or situation or person. 

For example, almost everyone has a fear of public speaking. That kind of performance anxiety is something I can definitely help you change so that you will feel more confident and in control.

Do you feel restless and ill-at-ease when you have to be in a group of people, especially a large group or a group that you don’t know well? Do you lose your voice or feel like you might panic?

Do you decline invitations and stay at home? 

The voice of fear within social anxiety may be telling you that it’s safer to become a turtle and hide inside. However, that voice usually makes your life more difficult, and the anxiety often increases.

I have a very safe, grounded, private office. Within this secure space, I can help you develop inner resources and strategies to feel more confident in social situations. With EMDR and other tools, you can practice allowing your inner turtle to come out of it’s shell in a safe, contained way, until you’re ready to practice in the outer world.

I also recognize that some people are simply more sensitive then others. There’s no pressure for you to become an extrovert! If you are highly sensitive or empathic, your goals may simply to become more comfortable in a small group, and to develop self-care strategies for times when you are in public situations.

Or perhaps you have felt anxiety scurrying around in the background of your mind for a long time or even most of your life. Generalized anxiety is very common.

Roots of anxiety.

Some anxiety is situational. Nearly everyone is afraid of public speaking. Many people are afraid of having to speak up to a boss, teacher, or other person in a position of power.

For some people those situations are manageable. But for many people those situations can create acute distress.
