Positive, client-centered approach to therapy.

CLIENT-CENTERED. My style is positive, supportive, and centered on your needs and goals. I believe that, with some support and guidance, you can rediscover and strengthen your inner resources and find your path back to a healthy and fulfilling life.

Holistic, integrative counseling methods.

HOLISTIC. I have an inclusive, holistic approach to emotional and mental health.

Some ways that mind-body awareness can improve therapy and wellness:

  • Our thoughts and emotions affect our bodies. And our bodies affect our brains, feelings, perceptions, moods, and levels of anxiety or peace.
  • Our bellies produce as many neurotransmitters as our brains, and food allergies can affect depression, anxiety, and mental focus.
  • Studies have shown that exercise can decrease depression as well as Prozac, and all the side-effects are positive!
  • I teach a a very natural technique of breathing, which has helped hundreds of people learn to relax, manage their stress and anxiety, and get better sleep.

INTEGRATIVE. In our work together, I will draw from a broad set of tools and methods to help you meet your unique needs and goals.

My approach is integrative: I believe that there is no single approach to therapy that can do justice to human complexity. So we may do some talk therapy, mixed with more active or experiential methods such as relaxation skills training, visualization, meditation, creative expression, dream exploration, Gestalt, or EMDR.

COLLABORATIVE. I often consult with other health practitioners, and I especially recommend nutritional counseling if you are depressed or anxious.

If you are not making as much progress as we expect after working with the tools I share with you, I may suggest suggest getting a medical check up, and/or seeing a holistic health practitioner to check for underlying physical or dietary causes of chronic low energy or emotional patterns.

Sometimes medications are necessary, but I find that many clients improve with a holistic treatment plan that can include supplements, exercise, breath and relaxation training, body-mind or energy techniques, shifting negative self-talk, and creative expression. See my article, Relief from Depression, for examples.

Relationships and emotional growth

RELATIONSHIPS. The health of our primary relationships affects our mental and emotional health on many levels. The emotional health of our friendships, working relationships, and love relationships also affects our physical health.

COUPLES. If you are worried about your relationship or marriage, please check out my Marriage Therapy page and Holistic, Integrative Counseling for Couples. The biggest mistake that couples make is waiting too long to seek help. I am available to help you mend or improve your relationship.

INDIVIDUALS. Emotional growth is key to living a fulfilling life, and having healthy, loving friendships and relationships.

  • Is there a lot of drama in your life?
  • Or do you feel isolated and lonely?
  • Do you fear abandonment?
  • Or do you tend to get overwhelmed by too much closeness.

I know that it can be difficult to reach out for support, but I am available when you are ready to take the next step.

Emotional growth

RECONNECTING INNER PARTS OF OURSELVES. Often we need to understand and work with parts of ourselves, such as an Inner Critic or a Scared Child, before we can feel complete within ourselves and ready to be in a healthy relationship with others.

AGES AND STAGES OF DEVELOPMENT. Some ages and life transitions are just more difficult to handle by yourself. xxxx

FAMILY-OF-ORIGIN PATTERNS. We are all affected by early experiences in our family, including how we were held and nurtured, and whether there was any emotional or physical separation, drama, or chaos. So, depending on your focus, we may look at how family-of-origin issues are affecting you now, and what you want to change as you move forward.

  • Do you experience social anxiety?
  • Are you sensitive, shy, or introverted?
  • Have you had spiritual or psychic experiences?

More holistic psychotherapy methods for stuck patterns and deeper wounds.

  • Performance anxiety, social anxiety, test anxiety, phobias and fears, blocked creativity, fear of flying …
  • Release dysfunctional patterns with integrative therapies
  • Release trauma with EMDR and Soul-Centered Counseling

ANXIETY AND KNOTS: Performance anxiety, social anxiety, phobias, blocked creativity, test anxiety, fear of flying, “being all tied up in knots” – stuck patterns like these usually resolve easily with a combination of holistic techniques. I plan to have a webpage on these issues, but in the meantime, contact me to set a time for a free consultation, TherapyWithEdie@gmail.com or 303-415-3755.

DYSFUNCTIONAL PATTERNS: Deeper dysfunctional patterns, such as recurrent relationship issues, chronic anxiety, low self-esteem, depressive moods, or addictive behaviors, will take some deeper work, but you can definitely experience relief and even resolution.

We may need to look at family-of-origin issues and other experiences as a child, teen, or adult. But my approach to therapy is not about hashing out the past over and over, but rather about discovering the roots of patterns and then working in the present to change the future with EMDR, Gestalt, cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness, and other holistic tools.

TRAUMA: Trauma symptoms occur on a spectrum from mild to severe, and from simple to complex. Sources of trauma include single incidents such as accidents, floods, and fire, or prolonged and complex situations, such as abusive relationships, combat, or childhood abuse.

I hold a space of hope and healing for you if you have experienced trauma of any kind.

I work with trauma in stages, at a pace that is appropriate for each client. First, we want to tend to your current safety and stability in the outer world, if needed. Then I help you develop inner resources, including relaxation and self-stabilizing skills, and learning to experience an inner “safe space” and a team of “inner helpers.”

Then we can work with memories, body symptoms, emotions, relationship patterns, or other symptoms. My main tool is EMDR, which uses a simple left-right rhythm to help the brain, mind, and body release stuck memories and patterns.

Many clients benefit from Inner Child therapy during or after trauma work.

Some clients also integrate shamanic tools, such as Soul-Retrieval or Power Recovery journeys, and energy tools, such as limpias, along with EMDR and trauma therapy.

Please don’t hesitate to call me to set up a time to talk together, if you or a loved one want to learn more about trauma, or to explore treatment options that will help you feel better. 303-415-3755

Dreams, Depth Psychology, and Soul-Centered Counseling

  • Explore your dreams and archetypal imagery.
  • Deepen your connection with your Inner Child and True Self with Soul-Centered Counseling.
  • Experience soul-retrieval and power-recovery through shamanic journeys.
  • Heal past-life and ancestral patterns with Deep Memory Process TM, and shamanic tools.

Soul-Centered Counseling.

Many of my clients want to include a soulful or spiritual dimension in their healing process. Some want to develop deeper mind-body awareness. Many are interested in exploring the meaning of their dreams. Others want to connect with their Spirit Guides through shamanic journeys. The choice and goals are yours. My role is not to impose any one particular belief system on you, but rather to help you expand your choices and discover the paths that help you reach your full potential.

Spiritual counseling and transpersonal psychotherapy

  • Grief, loss, near-death experiences, after-death communication
  • Healing for past lives and ancestral patterns
  • Spiritual support for recovery
  • Finding your own path of spiritual development
No matter how far you journey, you can come back to your Sacred Center.

Follow your own path, at your own pace. Despite the twists and turns, the labyrinth will always bring you back to your Sacred Center.

Discovering and walking your Spiritual Path

Finding your Spiritual Direction.

Whether you feel completely lost, or simply wish to be more grounded and consistent in your spiritual practice, you will find it helpful to have someone to discuss your spiritual direction in an open and non-judgmental way.

Spiritual emptiness is often one root of depression, existential anxiety, alcoholism, trauma, and other painful conditions. I have been honored to facilitate and witness many deep transformations as clients have learned to stretch their minds, soften their hearts, and listen to the wisdom of the Healer Within.

Spiritual exploration, reconnection, and recovery.

If you struggle to find an authentic relationship with your Higher Power, I can assist you in discovering your own path of spiritual exploration and reconnection. I can also teach you useful tools to manage anxiety. If needed, we can also use shamanic journeys or EMDR to release past trauma or painful memories that keep you disconnected from your feelings or stuck in dysfunctional patterns. Call or email me at 303-415-3755 if you are serious about your recovery.

These issues respond well to Holistic Psychotherapy and Soul-Centered Counseling

I have webpages under development for each of these and more. I will link them up soon. In the meantime, please contact me at 303-415-3755 or TherapyWithEdie@gmail.com for more information and a free consultation.
